Web
site promotion tips & dangers pt.2
Being
on the first page of search results, preferably in the top several listings,
is vital to being found.
If you are selling a product or service that has a high
enough ROI (return on investment), then you might want to consider
paid services like Yahoo's Overture or Google's ads. Those engines are
used by the majority of web surfers.
Also,
make sure things like ads, vehicles, business cards, brochures,
etc., that have your number, have your website address.
Our
websites can include the design aspects of search engine
optimization. I.e., we know what makes it difficult for the engines to
find, list and rank your site's pages, so we insure that they
don't have "blocks" to getting easily listed
and "crawled" by what they call their "robots"
or "spiders".
Submitting
your site to search engines is also important, as is keeping an
eye on your ranking if you make any changes. But the engines do
not like people using automated submission or ranking software or
systems - do it by hand or have someone else do it that way or you could regret it.
Another
issue is keywords. In the past, people used all kinds of ways to
spam the engines by "stuffing" keywords into their
sites. We recommend just sticking to a few of the relevant
keywords and keyword phrases that will help the engines, and
searchers, find your site. We can research it and place them for
you as part of your design.
Good web design
includes placing your relevant keywords in "meta-tags".
You can find free info on the web on how to do that, if you don't
use us to design a site for you. For a while, SE's didn't want
them, now they do again. They use them to help determine how to properly list your
site.
If you've
hired a good web design company to do your meta's and write the
copy, you shouldn't need a
search engine optimization company. Your site should be made and written for humans, and to sell your
product. If so, the engines will find it "relevant" and
rank it well for its niche.
